5 BEST RADIO STATIONS IN IBADAN

One of the best form of entertainment is
radio programming. People love musci, latest information, gists, news and
music. That is where radio comes into play.
So Ibadan city has experienced a revolution
in radio emergence as new stations continue to spring up at every corner of the
metropolis. About 17 radio stations, both government owned and private, are in
full operations. But out of them all, check out the top 5 that have
successfully endeared Ibadan to their hearts.

1. Jamz FM, 100.1

Jamz FM was launched in 2016 by Mr. Femi
Sowoolu, an ace and legendary broadcaster, media giant and a voice-over expert
who has done several top notch jingles for big multinational companies.
Jamz FM is located at Plot 2,Deacon Olufemi
Quadri Street, Felele Layout, off Lagos-Ibadan expressway. It is an
all-encompassing radio station that embraces today’s youths and trending
issues. The transmission is 24 hours daily with interesting radio programs that
always keep its listeners glued to their radio sets and phones. Yes! Phones
because, according to the CEO, they have decided to give their audience a real
programme they could participate and call in to contribute.
Most of the programs on Jamz FM are in
English but they have a multi-dialect lunchtime program they air everyday
called ‘Abula Junction’. ‘NaijaJamz’ is a one hour music program dedicated to
Nigerian up and coming musicians where their tracks are promoted for free.
Gospel Jamz and fascinating lunch hour show
also hold everyday. A special program dedicated to late Fela Anikulapo Kuti’s
music tagged ‘Kulabubito’ also air once every week to keep the memory of the
iconic musician fresh. There are also some Yoruba programs usually aired in the

2. Inspiration FM 100.5

This is a radio station that has been seen
as the ‘best family radio’ because of the numerous programs that promote family
values and unity, such as ‘Sharing life issues’ anchored by Richard Ekpo (from
Monday to Friday at 7pm-8pm) and the Yoruba version anchored by Apostle Taiwo
Alade Tekobo (Saturdays and Sundays at 7pm-8pm). Other programs of such nature
abound both in English and Yoruba languages. 
Located at 7, Osuntokun Avenue, Bodija,
Inspiration FM (abbreviated as ‘ifm1005’) is spearheaded by Soni Irabor, a
Nollywood icon and a seasoned broadcaster in Nigeria. It has been in Lagos but
the Ibadan branch was  launched in 2015
and they transmit from 5:00am to 12:am.
They are on all social media platforms
including Facebook Live Streaming. They have won several awards and truly, they
are inspiring.

3. Splash FM 105.5

‘The Integrity Station’ was launched in
2007, Splashfm is reputed to be the first private radio station in the city of
Ibadan. It was established by Chief Adebayo Akande (Ekerin Olubadan), a
business tycoon and media heavyweight who also created a twin radio station
called Lagelu FM. It was formerly situated at Premier Hotel, Mokola before
being relocated to White House, Felele.
SplashFM is a station that integrated both
old and young together in their enriching programs in English, Yoruba and
pidgin languages. Their presenters are dedicated and possess good fluence in
both indigenous and English dialects. The station transmits from 5:00am to
1:00am from Monday to Friday then 5:00am to 3:00am on weekends.
Splashfm works in partnership with ICPC to
organize an annual marathon tournament tagged ‘The Integrity Marathon’ every
March where the winner goes home with N1m and above. Another notable annual
program attributed to Splashfm is the yearly lecture that always commemorates
the CEO’s birthday in July.
Splashfm has won many awards, the most
popular one being the ‘Most Listened To Radio Station In The Western Nigeria’.
From morning to midnight, daily programs never stop buzzing.

4. FreshFM 105.9

You can’t have a complete Ibadan life
without listening to Freshfm. Founded by the gospel juju music and media baron,
Dr. Joel Olayinka Ayefele (FON), Freshfm started as an internet station and was
operated online for seven years before obtaining license from NBC in 2015 to
start real radio operation. Freshfm is located at Music house, Challenge area
of Ibadan.
Freshfm has spread its horizon outside
Nigeria and the presenters can transmit their individual programs in any part
of the world at anytime on their schedules. One of their giant stride
accomplishment was the approval they obtained in 2016 to cover the USA
presidential election which saw the success of Donald Trump as the president.
They were the only Nigerian radio station to achieve this feat.
Transmitting from 5:00am to 12:00am, most
of the programs aired at the station are in Yoruba language. Some of its
beloved programs include ‘Let’s talk about it’ by the CEO himself and Olusegun
Bamidele, drive time show with Rolake Bello (a former OAP from Thebeatsfrm),
‘Mind your language’ by Adedotun Adeniyi and ‘Confession time’ hosted by
Adedotun Amosun (Soul). Others are ‘Political Arena’ by Isaac Brown, Morning
show by Tope Edwards and Yoruba news programs both morning and afternoon, ‘koko
inu iwe iroyin’ (news headlines) and ‘o gb’enu tan’ (too complex to talk about)
respectively.  
Freshfm is also on all social media
platforms and Youtube.

5. Thebeats 97.9

Thebeats97.9 FM was born out of passion for
quality programming in Ibadan. It was a branch from Thebeats99.9 FM in Lagos.
It was opened in 2013 and has since then been a darling to Ibadan urban
environs. Although the station hosts only English programs, Ibadan love the
sophistication it has brought to the face of media.
Morning beats, News headlines, LunchTime
show, Drive time show and Night time show are the major programs while gospel
beats holds on Sunday morning. Apart from radio programs, Thebeats also dole
